My password for use in the terminal has become inactive. Kindly help, please.

I used the terminal to run the command: $ sudo ufw status. Then my password for the computer was required . I typed this in but it was not accepted five times. Then I got an error message that the password had become inactive. Do I need to reset the password for my computer? If so, how is this password to be reset?
