lost default terminal

in terminal only $ symbol is showing.how to bring default terminal.plzzzz help me out to see my default terminal bcoz it not showing the directory path.i tried some comannd's like "bash"
,"chsh" & "export PS1='${PWD}>'" but still it is not coming as default terminal by using these commands for that time only it is coming again when i am openning terminal then there $ is only showing

When you try to enter a directory what happend?
For example, try to run:
cd /usr

and then run:
ls

now copy and paste here the result.

thank's sir but now it is working but another problem occur's while i am shutting down the system it is not shutting down properly after clicking shut down button it hang's on ubuntu screen it is completing three dot's after that it is not working every time i have to directly switch off the system

the terminal is coming in every directory whenever i m opening my disk or folder a terminal window is coming upside i want to remove that how to remove plzzzz help me

Right click on icon. Then "Open with another application..." and select a new application by default. It should be for a folder "nautilus".
