Universe is one of the software repositories ran by Ubuntu, and managed by volunteers. It contains a wider range of packages than the core Ubuntu release provides.

To enable it, go to System - Administration - Software Sources and tick the box labelled "Community maintained Open Source software (universe)".

You have to add (or maybe uncomment) following lines in /etc/apt/sources.list file

deb http://it.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ gutsy universe
deb-src http://it.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ gutsy universe
deb http://it.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ gutsy-updates universe
deb-src http://it.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/ gutsy-updates universe

Then run: sudo apt-get update

Otherwise, if you use Synaptic Package Manager to install new packages, you have to run Synaptic Package Manager from System->Administration menu

Then you have to select Settings->Repositories and fill the check beside "Community-maintained Open Source Spftware (universe)"

Can you help with this problem?
