Oneiric unstable: changing the dimensions on terminal will result in the window displaying as blank white at 132x43. How can I provide debugging information for this problem?

Asked by Andrew Golding

Changing the dimension of my terminal window will cause the window to go blank white. The terminal doesn't appear to lock up but there is nothing being displayed in the terminal window until I change the size to a smaller size. I'm not seeing anything in Xorg.log, lightdm.log, or :0.log, where else should I be looking?

This is Ubuntu 11.10.

Report a bug with gnome-terminal. Oneiric is NOT stable and NOT ready at all. You may find xterm works ok in the interim.

I am seeing the same thing with other programs like JEdit and Text Editor. When the window is bigger than a certain size, the contents disappear, leaving an empty white box. Dragging the corner to make the window smaller restores the content.

Are you still experiencing this problem, now that Oneiric has been released and is considered stable? Have you reported a bug for this? Does the problem happen only in Unity (session type "Ubuntu" as selected from the gear icon menu on the graphical login screen). Does it also happen in Unity 2D (session type"Ubuntu 2D")?

This problem was solved by moving to the Ubuntu nVidia binary driver package on one machine, and thankfully is not present in 11.10 with the most current nvidia drivers (285) on a GT440 on a newer machine. I did not try running unity 2D while the problem presented itself.
