Can Ubuntu run Mac and Windows Files

Asked by Heavyblues

I'm seriously considering switching to Ubuntu, from windows, but I'll need it to run all of my windows EXEs... see, like games and such. Windows has been rather screwing me over...

I was wondering if Ubuntu can run all Windows EXEs

and if it can run Mac DMG (I think) files that'd be... well, pretty kickass.

can someone fill me in?

ubuntu is not windows, it has its own software suite (and its own games, for example ID software makes its games such as doom3, quake 4, et:qw all run on linux/ubuntu, unreal tournament 3 does too) and its reccomended that you find alternatives for your current windows software (such as using gimp instead of photoshop). you may have sum sucuess with runing windows applications through wine (a compatibility layer) but wine is far from perfect.

the best advice if you want to run non windows for day to day stuff (email, internet, that kind of thing) but still want to play the latest and greatest games is to 'dual boot' both windows and ubuntu, that way you can run ubuntu most of the time and boot into windows when you want to play a game.

you can find out more about dual booting here: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/WindowsDualBoot

I... never said that >.>;;

but thanks, that confirmed what I thought... I'm still kind of a computer noob tho... dual booting might give me a bit of trouble...
