Thunderbird not retrieving email after switching server IP but not URL

On Thunderbird 3.1.9 on Ubuntu 11.04 I am not able to retrieve my email after I switched my server IP but did not switch the URL?
In other words stockton.co.za used to be 69.164.196.227 but is now 66.228.52.163.
I browse fine to www.stockton.co.za at the new IP and if I access SquirrelMail at the new IP my emails are there in place.

It was just a matter of allowing enough time to go by and it all worked fine.
Interesting that browsing and ping worked way earlier than Thunderbird.
