I am unable to view DVD's...

Asked by Andyjpatch

Binary package hint: gnome-terminal

Hello
6 days ago I downloaded Ubuntu for the first time.
I am using Ubuntu 10.10
I cannot play my DVD's and I have wasted most of the last week trying to sort the problem out
I try to enter code into the terminal and then I am asked for my password...I can get no further as the system doesn't accept my password :-(
I have wanted to try this operating system out for a number of years, but I feel this is all above me.
Sorry but if you could help me - I would be very thankful

Regards

Andy Patch

You may need to install additional software to play DVDs.

Click Applications > Ubuntu Software Center

Search for "Ubuntu restricted extras" and install them.

Then you will probably then need to install libdvdcss2 via the Medibuntu's repository by:

sudo wget --output-document=/etc/apt/sources.list.d/medibuntu.list http://www.medibuntu.org/sources.list.d/$(lsb_release -cs).list && sudo apt-get --quiet update && sudo apt-get --yes --quiet --allow-unauthenticated install medibuntu-keyring && sudo apt-get --quiet update && sudo apt-get --yes install libdvdcss2

Can you help with this problem?
