Color text in gnome-terminal

Asked by James Wofford

When I use gnome-terminal, I don't get a color listing when I use the 'ls' command as I do in SuSE Linux. Is Ubuntu's version of gnome-terminal able to have color text in the window (aside from the color scheme)?

try ls --color. You can add alias ls "ls --color" to your .bash_profile to make it happen each time you start a new terminal, though you'll have to set your terminal to be a login shell for .bash_profile to be read.

to do that : Edit > Current Profile > profilename > Run a login shell

Can you help with this problem?
