why will the terminal not let me input my password

when i punch i my password nothing happens i assume the password for terminal is the same as the logon (the password chosen during set up) ps i am new to ubuntu so go easy on me ...thanx

As a security measure you CAN'T SEE YOUR PASSWORD IN THE TERMINAL. But is is there!

Just type the password and hit enter.
