no sound

Asked by Redd

I have a sound blaster, but I have an onboard sound card because this is what it sees when I go into alsamixer and at the top left this is what I see : Card: SiS SI7012
                                                               Chip: Realtek ALC200,200P rev 0
                                                               Item: Master [dB gain=0.00, 0.00]

Now do I have no sound because it does not see my soundblaster card? If yes how do I get it to work? I am running 7.04 on a Pen 4 1.8 Gig. I search the forums and did what they say to do but still I get nothing yet.

Thanks for your time,
Dave

Normally you can switch between sound cards using the Volume control applet. When you click "Open Volume Control" (right-click on the applet icon on the top right of the panel), you have the option to choose which card you are using.

Now, if the application you want to test is a proper GNOME application, then it will accept the configuration you did above. For other applications it might or might not work.

You can disable your onboard sound card so that the added one (sound blaster) will be detected and used. You can do this from the BIOS options, "Disable onboard audio card" or something similar.

If you disable the onboard sound card you may have more chance to get it work out of the box without further tinkering.

Can you help with this problem?
