how to perform sudo apt-get clean

Asked by barbara blair

I have tried to allow system to update, but the systems tells me that there is not enough space, its asks me to empty trash, or perform a 'sudo apt-get clean',. I went to terminal and typed in the sudo etc. and nothing happened. Please help.

sudo apt-get clean won't show any output. as long as it asked for your password, it worked.

have you tried emptying your trash as well?

You strictly need to open a Terminal from the menu Applications->Accessories->Terminal and type:

sudo dpkg --configure -a
sudo apt-get -f install
sudo apt-get --fix-missing install
sudo apt-get clean

give your user password when requested, you don't see nothing when you type it, then press enter.

But to check if you can freed more spaces please send us the result of this terminal command:

dpkg -l | grep -i linux-image | grep -i ^ii

Hello Marcus, I did in fact empty the trash, also I moved all of my documents to a Media drive. I tried updating by taking out the media drive, and still no luck. I just don't know what to do now. If you have any other suggestions, please advise. Thank you for your prompt response. I remain. Ms. Barbara
