problem with terminal prompt i.e. command prompt

I am using ubuntu 10.04 but its terminal prompt don`t take password when i try to install any software i.e. when sudo command is used. command prompt usually get hanged. at that time my none of the key from keyboard works but only enter works. why ?

There is no visual feedback when you type, this is to hide the lenght. Just type your password in and hit enter. It will work
