how to run 'NVIDIA-Linux-x86-256.53.run' in Ubuntu

I want to install the NVIDIA driver for the graphic-card GeForce 220 on my PC, but cannot get the downloaded driver executed. Please help.

Another good reference, in the Ubuntu documentation: https://help.ubuntu.com/community/NvidiaManual. However, if you can do so, you're better off going with the supported drivers that can be installed directly with Synaptic. Any video problems that you might be having will most likely not be solved by using the uber-latest drivers, plus manual installation can create a number of problems of its own, among them, I believe, the fact that you'll have to manually re-install the driver with every kernel update.

     Opening a terminal and typing "sudo sh Nvidia*run" should do. Make sure to capitlize letters appropriately so they match the file name. It will ask for your password, of course, due to use of "sudo".
