uname command displays incorrect information and lacks information knowledge?

Asked by Theatre-X

While using the "uname" command, the command displays incorrect information and also lacks information.

When the option, "-m" is entered, the output states "i686". I find this odd because the "-m" option should output the machine model which is "Toshiba Satellite L355" for me. My processor is also of i586 nature. Not i686.

When the option, "-p" is entered, the command doesn't recognize my processor. But yet -m does even though it's incorrect.

Thank you! :)

uname will not display the informations you wanted, you might as well try installing sysinfo:

sudo apt-get install sysinfo

and run the application by:

Applications--->System Tools--->Sysinfo

For more informations on uname, try:

man uname

HTH.

Maybe related to this change.

e.g. manpage says (note the 'or'):
print the processor type or "unknown"
