Cannot write command lines when stopping X (GNOME)
Asked by
Joda
When I use the command line "sudo /etc/init.d/gdm stop" and the X server stops, I am not able to write commands. All I get is the last bit of the boot-up information and an empty line. I've tried writing "login", "logout", "sudo /etc/init.d/gdm start" and what other commands I could think of to make the terminal react, but it just makes a new line with the marker at the same place. However it worked once, when I used the "sudo init 1" command, but I need to install the Nvidia driver and it says init level 3 is required. Why am I not able to make my terminal respond to commands, with the X-server closed?
Thanks on advance
Regards
Jonas
