deleate second 6.06 & fix grub loader

Asked by Paul H

I've a problem of my own making. I deleated ubutu 5.10 and messed up the grub loader. In desperation, I reloaded ubuntu6.06 and now have it loaded twice. It shows up twice when starting the computer. what I'ed like to do is...
1. remove the second copy of6.06.
2. while doing the above, not mess up the grub loader. in other words end up with the options of loading Ubuntu6.06 automaticlly and have the option of loading XP.
thanks for helpin this newbe

Are you sure it shows two entries? Can you mention those entries here?

You can edit grub configuration file in Ubuntu using command 'gksudo gedit /boot/grub/menu.lst'. There you can add/remove OS entries.

Or the easiest way is to try command 'sudo dpkg-reconfigure grub'.

Make sure to make a backup copy of menu.lst file.

Can you help with this problem?
