Asked by murphy

upon opening the terminal in my home directory it shows character overlay and when typing in commands it shows spacing that should not be there. i have tried to copy and past this so you can see what i am saying and when i do it shows it properly when pasted.i will try to create what i am asking about with a string of letters. shack1@shack1-desktop:~$ qw ertyu iop
at this point the @ is overlain with the s in shack1

this is very confusing to me and i have tried several things to fix this situation to no avail. thank you for your help!
