white video with skype

Asked by lucasguidi1977

Hello

I'm new to Ubuntu and the whole world of Linux OS...
I've been sing Ubuntu for a week already and I'm trying to set the webcam to work with Skype.
The installation of the software went out for good, i can easily chat but the webcam doesn't work at all with Skype. when I go to the setup and try to test the webcam (wich is recognized by the software) I only see a white screen, and the green light of the cam turns off...
The cam works fine with webcam Cheese, so I don't understand what's wrong.
The webcam is a logitech
... could it be possible that the video card could be the problem? I've read that nvidia may give issues.

Thank you for any help

Best regards

Lucas

Hi! I had the same issue before but this is what I did. Try it also. Go to System > Preferences > Main Menu then point to Skype under the category Internet. Click the Properties button and copy-paste this line on the command field:
bash -c 'export LD_PRELOAD=/usr/lib/libv4l/v4l2convert.so; skype'

You can also try it first on the Terminal and see if Skype opens correctly. Copy-paste the same command and when Skype opens up, try the sounds and the webcam.
