log file viewer doesn't show logs for older dates

Asked by Bengt Olsson

Running Xubuntu 15.10 and gnome-system-log only shows today's and yesterday's logs for for example syslog. Older syslog files exists:
-rw-r----- 1 syslog adm 171382 feb 21 10:18 syslog
-rw-r----- 1 syslog adm 206601 feb 21 07:43 syslog.1
-rw-r----- 1 syslog adm 6727 feb 20 08:00 syslog.2.gz
-rw-r----- 1 syslog adm 2376 feb 19 07:47 syslog.3.gz
-rw-r----- 1 syslog adm 3919 feb 18 08:04 syslog.4.gz
-rw-r----- 1 syslog adm 3671 feb 17 07:50 syslog.5.gz
-rw-r----- 1 syslog adm 3667 feb 16 07:37 syslog.6.gz
-rw-r----- 1 syslog adm 113322 feb 15 07:37 syslog.7.gz

In my case I'm also subject to bug #1357337 so in fact Yesterday's syslog displays Today's logs...

What could be my problem?
Thanks,
//Bengt

Could look in dconf-editor

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?t=1974195

You may have the number of days to show set in there (or in gnome-system-log itself.

Personally I'd just grep the files (zcat the compressed files and pipe to grep to read them). It's very simple and incredibly quick. Better than some GUI nonsense IMHO.

Can you help with this problem?
