Thank you for taking the time to report this issue and helping to make Ubuntu better. Examining the information you have given us, this does not appear to be a bug report so we are closing it and converting it to a question in the support tracker. We appreciate the difficulties you are facing, but it would make more sense to raise problems you are having in the support tracker at https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu if you are uncertain if they are bugs. For help on reporting bugs, see https://help.ubuntu.com/community/ReportingBugs .

can you give the output of this command, just to clarify:

cd ~/.configure/autostart; clear; ls

There are a few startup lists in Linux but this is the easiest to read.

You probably have Ubuntu set to "remember" applications.

To fix this:

System --> Preferences --> Startup Applications.
Options tab.
Make sure that "Automatically remember..." *is* ticked.
Close.

Close all applications not required at startup.

Restart.

No applications should be running.

Go to Startup Applications, Options tab again (as above), and this time ensure that "Automatically remember..." is *not* ticked and then close.

Restart and you should find that no programs start automatically.

Can you help with this problem?
