"Weather" and "kill process" + "move the bar in the bottom" in 11.04/11.10 not possible in 12.04

Asked by Morten Hansen

Hi.... hope you can help me...

(sorry for my english - I'm a danish guy....)

I HAVE CHANGE I RUNNING GNOME CLASSIC IN 12.04 BUT I MISSING SOME FEATURES....

In the new 12.04 I really missing some "ikons" in the top bar...

In the old versions 11.04 / 11.10 it was possible to choose get the weather shown and have a Ikon
you could click on and use this to click at program you want to "kill"...

I did not remember exactly how I choose to have this ikons in the top bar - but I don't think it possible to find them in 12.04???

I would also really like to move the bar in the bottom - so I have to bars in the top - "the processline" and under this the bar where all the open programs is shown....

In 11.04 + 11.10 it was possible to move the bars and place just as you want to - you could lock/unlock the bar...
I did really hope that it somehow is possible to get this feature back in 12.04???

I suggest you use XFCE, it is very similar to Gnome2 and will give what you need...

Did you add the indicator area and such to the panels?

Hi...

I'm no eagle to Ubuntu - so I don't know exactly what you mean with "indicator area and such to the panels"?

Can you explain how I install XFCE - then I will be happy :-)

Without further applications:
sudo apt-get install xfce4

Complete DE:
sudo apt-get install xubuntu-desktop

Just to get an idea of dependencies.
http://packages.ubuntu.com/precise/xfce4
http://packages.ubuntu.com/precise/xubuntu-desktop

Reboot.
Select xfce or xubuntu session from login.

I'm almost satisfied :-)

But I would like to know is it possible to get "the kill-button" back in the panel?

I can't find it in xfce - but everything else is working very fine...

Sometimes Ubuntu crashes

add a launcher to the panel to run:

xkill

and you will be able to click on apps you want to end.

Thanks to Sam and actionparsnip....

You both solved my problem...

I don't think it is possible for me to mark both #4 and #6 as the solution??
