Each 5 minutes my PC gets completely stuck

Asked by henrique klein pedroso

I updated my Ubuntu from version 9.10 to 10.04. Since then nothing more seems to work. Each 5 minutes my PC gets completely stuck. I have to turn it off by pulling the power wire from the wall plug because nor even rebooting solves the problem. and begin again. How can I go back to ubuntu9.10 from ubuntu10.4?
Thanks

The only way I know is to reinstall from Ubuntu 9.10 CD/USB stick. Please make a BACKUP of /home. I know that 10.10 keeps /home folder and probably also 10.04. But I don't know for 9.04.

Sounds like you might have the Intel video problem -- turn off your screensaver (or ensure the picture is the blank screen), and see if updating your kernel will fix things. system/administation/update-manager, check, and then install. If you cannot keep the machine running long enough to complete the download, try again, and uncheck all but the linux... packages. I had freeze problems with my desktop with 10.04 until some kernel updates.
