so what you are telling me is that you are a user . if you are the root user ,[ you are the pc administrator ] and you can use it . if you are not then ask the person who is to allow the use .

Hi Vinodh,

I have noticed that if you will have root privileges, then this function will not work. So need to be in any group apart from root.

Hope this will help.

@Alpesh - That's an observation. That's exactly what Vinodh asked. You can't lock your screen if you are a root user. But I want to lock my screen even if I have logged in as root. How to do that ?

Hi Avinash,

Try below.

Go to a Terminal screen (Applications/Accessories/Terminal)
Type: "apt-get install xlockmore" without quotes to install xlock package.
Once it is installed, you can create shortcut to lock the screen.
Go to System/Preferences/Keyboard Shortcuts
"Add" and enter a description for the Lock Screen. Use the key combination you want to set to lock the screen.

It should work then.
