On the top panel a message is displayed: "An error occurred, please launch the Package Manager from the menu under the right mouse button or apt-get in the terminal in order to check the reason for the problem. The contents of the error: 'Error: Opening the cache (E: Encountered a section with no Package: header, E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/dpkg/status, E: The package lists or status file could not be parsed or opened.)' Usually this means that the installed packages contain unfulfilled dependencies." - this is a translation from Polish.

When opening the Package Manager Synaptic, the following is displayed:
E: Encountered a section with no Package: header
E: Problem with MergeList /var/lib/dpkg/status
E: Failure on reading the packages list or status file
E: _cache->open() failed, please report.
