battery may be broken 48% capacity.

when i switch on the adaptor my laptop displays in notification area the message like this.battery may be broken since it is low capacity of 48%.what is the meaning .battery is in good condition.battery recharges fully with out any problem.i am using ubuntu 10.10 for 4 months.this message in 2days before.

This issue is not directly related to Ubuntu but i will explain shortly.
Ubuntu monitors the data transmitted by so called smart batteries.
Over time batteries are loosing capacity, a little bit with any loading cycle.
The battery will load to 100% of the actual capacity. But if it falls below 50% Ubuntu will give a warning.

To deactivate the warning, press Alt+F2, run "gconf-editor" and in the opening program switch of the key /apps/gnome-power-manager/notify/low_capacity.
