screen suddenly went black

Asked by Gary Mercado

hi,
why did my screen turned all black while reading internet news?
when it turned black, i tried to move the touchpad and the it is normal again but
i noticed an additional icon on my upper panel.
i moved the cursor/mouse over and it says

" Session active, not inhibited ,screen idle."
If you can see this text, your display server is broken and you should notify your distributor.
Please see http://blogs.gnome.org/hughsie/2009/08/17/gnome-power-manager-and-blanking-removal-of-bodges/

what will i do ?
the icon appeared is square with 4 red arrows on corners, similar to icon of "full screen view" of screensaver.
can i just delete the icon and not worry about it?

thanks ,
Gary

hi, Delance
this morning i opened my laptop, the icon i mentioned is gone.
i will try to visit the site/blog mentioned and see what it is.
since i use linux, i am no longer afraid to visit unknown sites unlike when i was using windows7,
when i click a link, my laptop will later act funny.
on windows OS, my golden rule is" never ever click a link"

oh, sorry to ask this, but how will i exactly raise a bug if the icon is gone?
as you know, i am not a pro on linux.

thanks Delance
Gary
