lost panel with system on it

i dont have the panel with the system and adminastative access on my computer so i can get to my documents or anything i saved on my computer

i had same thing happen try this; in terminal enter; gconftool-2 --shutdown
then:rm -rf ~/.gconf/apps/panel
then; pkill gnome-panel
 i went every place and this is what fixed mine. good luck

Press ALT+F2 and into showed window field type:

gnome-terminal

Then press enter

Then type:

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get remove ubuntu-desktop
sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop
sudo reboot

give your user password when requested, i will not see any screen chars when you type it, then press enter.

Even in my PowerBook 1.2 G4 1 Ghz this solve the problem!
