cannot use wireless card

i have recently installed Ubuntu 6.06 on Dell Inspiron 6400 with broadcom wireless card built in.
i am not able to get the wireless working, it does not show up in the network tools,
i tried all sorts of things given in various posts,
can anyone help me with this.
