Problem quitting Ubuntu

Asked by Iain Young

I installed Edgy, and it was working fine until today. Now, I cannot exit - I click the red button in the top right as I had before, but it has no effect.

I also can't access anything through the drop-down menus titled "Places" & "Systems" although I can use the "Applications" drop-down.

Please help.... I want to go to bed.

To shutdown your computer you can press Alt-F2 and then enter:

sudo shutdown -Ph now

after ticking the run in terminal box. When you run that a terminal should pop-up and ask for your password.

I'm not sure about the rest of it, I've heard that you sometimes can't open programs after you've changed your computers name so that might be it.

If you're asking how to uninstall Ubuntu, the only real way would be to install another operating system on top. However, if you used the windows installer (which isn't anywhere near being supported yet) I'm not sure.

You really need to open a new support request if you want support for something un-related to the new request. That will give you more chance of getting your request answered and it keeps launchpad tidy.

Thanks,
