No sound, unsure about video

Asked by wr0s

I have an off lease IBM PC here with integrated video and sound. Just did a fresh install of ubuntu linux and everything except sound and video pretty much self installed. This is a typical problem with Linux at least from my experience. I don't really want to have to do alot of tricky command line guru stuff to make this work. Does anyone have a suggestion?

Sincerely, Warren

What does `lspci' say? (you may have to run this in a root shell; try sudo -i)

What exactly does "video didn't self-install" mean? Do you mean you can't start the graphical environment (GNOME)?

Can you help with this problem?
