Locking down Ubuntu in Kiosk Mode... help!

I have installed Ubuntu 5.10 on a standard PC. Works beautifully. I now want to set it up for a non-admin user in Kiosk mode for our library and lock down the desktop for all other users so they can only run Firefox in kiosk mode and not run any other app, nor change the desktop, nor delete the firefox icon etc.

Any ideas? Detailed instructions would be deeply appreciated as I am completely new to Linux - transitioning from the dark side :-)

Try installing Sabayon. Also, there is an option somewhere in gconf for desktop locking-down.

More support for lockdowns will be arriving in Dapper with GNOME 2.14...

You need to read the related section[0] in Gnome Desktop System Administration Guide and use pessulus package to change the things easier than using gconf-editor. pessulus will be included in the next Ubuntu, Dapper - to be released in April.
