Computer software is completely scrambled. I want to restore to previous status!

The software prompted me to install upates. I did. It took 1 hour, and when it was completed, the windows began to overlap when clicked. The background for screen began to cover all folders, and a large multi-colored cirular tube, (like a slinky) rotated in the center of the screen. It is difficult to start, continue, or shut the compurter down. It has become totally disfunctional.
