Did you followed https://help.ubuntu.com/community/GraphicalInstall ?

Click on the red dots choose a city and check timezone and then forward.

thnx for the great link but i cannot see the change time button or the forward or back buttons in the installation steps. ( it shows the buttons in an image on the help page, i wouldn't have posted if i had seen them.) what should i do? reboot? i need graphics safe mode because my nvidia geforce 7150m is supposedly unsupported and so is my monitor for my hp pavilion dv6500( it says 6500 internally and 6000 externally (externally on the case) so i don't really know which it is) sorry its sooooo long

After you installed your Ubuntu in the end of the boot you will get something like.

Login into your Ubuntu with your account, and the appears something like:

fuh@bar $

And then you type "sudo apt-get install ubuntu-desktop"

"This document describes how to install Ubuntu 7.04 "Feisty Fawn" on Intel x86 computers ("i386"), using the Alternative installation CD."

This in on top of that page i gave you. Probably you have the ubuntu-desktop CD.
