Session lasting for only 10 seconds

Asked by mayur arora

I have suddenly lost access to my ubuntu 7.10.Whenever I login after entering my username and password,I get the message
Your session lasted for only 10 seconds
I get the following error list
Refusing to initialize GTK+
/etc/gdm/Xsession:Beginning session setup
can’t create dir/home/mayur/desktop
can’t create dir/home/mayur/pictures
                                            /templates

can’t create ~/.gnome2 directory:Permission denied
could not create per-user gnome configurations
directory’/home/mayor/gnome.2/’Permission denied:

Is there anything I can do to solve this problem. This all happened when ubuntu hung in the previous session and I manually rebooted.I have backedup my data using the ubuntu live cd.

You must somehow have changed the permission in your home directory. Can you try to log into the text-mode terminal and enter the following command:

sudo chown mayur:mayur /home/mayur -R

Can you help with this problem?
