When I minimize a window the window disappears and I can't get it back

Whenever I minimize a window, the window disappears. If it is a window with audio, the audio continues, but I cannot bring the window back up

You have removed the windows list applet on your panel. You can right click the panel -> add item then readd the item. You can alternatively reset the panels to defaults using:

gconftool --recursive-unset /apps/panel && killall gnome-panel
