how to set keyboard shortcuts for more than 2 workspaces (Ubuntu 7.10 issue) ?

Asked by Thierry

Just moved from Ubuntu 7.04 to 7.10 (install from scratch).

I reconfigured my gnome-panel to display 6 workspaces, as I had before. Then I wanted to assign a keyboard shortcut to go directly to each of those workspaces (this worked in previous Ubuntu/Gnome versions).
Unfortunately, the keyboard shortcut menu (section "windows management") offers one entry to go to workspace-1, one to go to workspace-2, but... no more !
Where are other workspaces ? (workspace-3... workspace-6)
How can I assign a shortcut to go directly to those workspaces ?

I tried to restart my session, and even restart computer, with no success...
I'm using workspace-switcher 2.20.0.1

Thanks !

I found a workaround, by installing the "Advanced Desktop Effect settings" package (apt-get install compizconfig-settings-manager).
Then, I changed the standard desktop to the cube one, and I could affect shortcuts to each face of my cube.
It works, but I guess there is some mismatch (conflict) between the gnome-panel and the virtual-desktop available in the Desktop Effects manager... :-(

You can also disable the Effects. Then the old shortcut configuration dialog will work again.

Yeap. I confirm.
I had to disable all effects this morning to get my dual screen working, and now, everything is back to normal...

Thanks.

This worked great for me. I would like to add that after I disabled Desktop Effects and set my shortcuts I was able to re-enable Desktop effects and the shortcuts still work!
