Try:

gconftool --recursive-unset /apps/panel && killall gnome-panel

To reset to defaults.

In which session did you login, Ubuntu-classic (Gnome) or Ubuntu-desktop (Unity)?

Update the system constantly to get Beta-2 and bug fixes. Report or confirm bugs.
