after updating i cant log out, lost my desktop icons, and dont have full screen or volume

Asked by tommy meissner

I updated and upgraded ubuntu, restarted, and lost my terminal. i cant get any sound. I have no capability to log out and the only way i have found to get online is by using the F1 key and clicking on the "Get answers" tab. I dont have a clue what to do to fix this problem. I cant get into the terminal because there is no icon.

To get a terminal on desktop: ctrl+alt+t
To run applications: alt+f2
Depends which Ubuntu and which shell, e.g. classic-desktop (Gnome) you may try to run the panel by inserting: gnome-panel

To shutdown computer via terminal: sudo shutdown -h now
To reboot via terminal: sudo reboot
