buggy linux panels

Something odd is going on with the panels.
Firstly, the main top panel is showing a date section but only half the text and I cannot remove it. It just says ed 26 Jan, 22:02 and doesn;t update the time - screenshot 1.

Secondly, my firefox has started repeating a load of links in the panel up to 10 times. I never duplicated these links so am not sure what has happened. - screenshot 2

It's definitely a bug as the links on the Firefox toolbar panel change while I am using Fifrefox and if I reload, it has duplicated different links.

Any ideas how I can sort this out?

To reset your panels to their default setup (losing any customization you've done to them), open a Terminal and run these commands:

gconftool-2 –-recursive-unset /apps/panel # might be optional
rm -rf ~/.gconf/apps/panel
pkill gnome-panel

If that doesn't fix your problem, I suggest posting your screenshots somewhere where users don't have to have an Ubuntu Forums account to see them; that way, more people can help you.

The above works but it does not reset the firefox toolbar, which seems to be repeating some links randomly.
Is that a firefox issue or an Ubuntu issue because it seems linked...

Your firefox problem seems to be an entirely separate issue; you will probably get best results by asking about it in a new question.

Also, I don't have an account on the Ubuntu Forums, so I cannot view those screenshots. This situation likely applies to other people as well, who otherwise could help you. If you make the screenshots more available, you might have better luck getting help on that issue.

[I'm removing the link to bug 143048, which is an old Zope2 bug that was fixed almost 7 years ago. That link was added by the user https://launchpad.net/~achram, who created his/her account today and has not done anything on Launchpad except for adding that bug link. Achram: If you feel that this Zope 2 bug is somehow related to this issue, please post and explain why.]

If you go into the Bookmark Manager in Firefox, can you see and delete the repeated links?
