citrix client

Asked by buck

how do you install the citirx client on the ubuntu.
Ubuntu 7.04
Citrix v. 10.6
x86 client - requires OpenMotif 2.2.x ???

All documentation on the ICA Client seems to be more the 2 years old. Has anyone a hint how to EXACTLY get the Ica client 10.6 (latest version) running on Ubuntu ver 7.04 (latest version) . After a few attempts and complete reinstall (4 times already) i completely stuck.

Ok. Did not know exactly where to put this so sorry if this the wrong place, but after several searches and attempts I think I have found a sure fire way for most linux Ubuntu 7.04 noobs like myself to install the latest Citrix client. Thats right the 10.6 version.

First and foremost you must make sure you have install the motif as follows:

sudo aptitude install libmotif3
sudo aptitude install libxaw7

After that you can follow the instructions on how to download and install it from the several sites that descibe this using the terminal. I would suggest downloading the .tar file and not the .deb one as it is mine and others exp. that it just has issues. If you want the installation instructions go here:

http://misconfig.blogspot.com/2007/05/installing-citrix-on-linux-ubuntu.html

I know it is for version 10.0 put it works for 10.6 as well. When you get to the point where it asks where to install citrix I suggest the default and take note where the location is going to be. After you get to the point where you hit "3" to quit stop there.

Go to System>Preferences>Main Menu
Choose Internet on the left side of screen
Then click on New Item
In the Name box type Citrix ICA client or whatever you want to call it.

In the Command box click the Browse button and point it to where you installed it just remember to go all the way to where the wfcmgr file is. For example: /home/user/ICAClient/linuxx86/wfcmgr

Click Close
There should now be a listing for it in the Main Menu screen with a check next to it.

Now Close the Main Menu window

When you go to Applications>Internet>Citrix ICA Client (or whatever you called it) it should bring up the Citrix Presentation Server. From hear just configure it for your needs. Thats it.

The following are the two sites that gave me the most help:

http://misconfig.blogspot.com/2007/05/installing-citrix-on-linux-ubuntu.html
http://howtoforge.org/citrix_presentation_server_ica_client_pclinuxos

Hope this helps others it worked for me so hears hoping it works for you. If not maybe it will at least put you on the right track.

My box is a Intel P4 D945GTP, Nvidia 7200...

In my case using either the Default Nvidia driver or using the restricted Nvidia driver, the above Citrix Install instructions worked fine and the client worked perfectly; HOWEVER, the next time that I tried to log into GDM I got an error saying something like "...my X session had lasted less than 10 seconds and would I like to see the log...".

So after some searching I did some tests. I ran a fresh install of Feisty, Gutsy, and Fedora 7 with all updates. In each case, I was able to install and use Citrix Client 10.6 but then was unable to log back into GDM the next time that I tried.

That's a pretty bad bug.

Please see about adding the Citrix Client to the Ubuntu Repositories. This is a Linux Deal-Breaker for me and most of my clients.

Thanks
Jeff

Dude - had this problem. I'm picking you installed the ICA Client from /tmp (after unpacking) - you'll now find the permissions on /tmp are screwed (install program trying to protect itself I guess). chmod a+rwx /tmp will get you going again (need to log in to failsafe/console and sudo command),

/tmp should also have sticky bit set so "sudo chmod 1777 /tmp" would be proper :-)
