Apps dissapearing of the taskbar

Asked by Ólafur Víðir Sigurðsson

I recently updated to ubuntu 10.10 and shortly after I did that, the volume application in the upper task bar disappeared. Today the application to work with internet connection disappeared, which means I cant manage my internet. Any thoughts of what I need to do?

If you have configured your connection you don't need nm-applet running. You simply won't be informed of connection. nm-applet is only a gui to configure new connections and display messages and it configures the network service which will be running.

You can reset the panels to default by using:

gconftool --recursive-unset /apps/panel && killall gnome-panel

And you can reset them up from that, also in the startup items, ensure that the volume app is ticked (if it is present).

I am practically new to ubuntu, so little help.
And I need that internet application to find my usb-internet.

Where is that gconftool--recursive-unset/apps/panel&&killall gnome-panel?

It's a terminal command. Press CTRL+ALT+T to get a terminal

copy and paste the command, there is a space you have missed. I gave the exact command so it can be copied and pasted.
