nic not recognized on hp laptop

Asked by nu2ubuntu

Odd, I do not have any problems with broadband or wireless. However, I can't seem to get the wired connection to work. Ubuntu won't recognize the on board nic, an nvidia mcp67 controller. The nm-applet is grayed out and command line says no such device. The cable is plugged in and the light is showing connection up, odd. Does anybody have any suggestions ? thanks, nu2ubuntu

The plot thickens, when I use the nm-applet for my wired connection it reads ifupdown eth13 connection, info from there says eth114. OK, thats interesting, when I use the "Devices Network-tools" it lists eth114 in the drop down menu but when I try to configure that device it says "Device interface does not exist-Check that it is correctly typed and that it is correctly supported by your system.". ifconfig lists that device but gives only a mac-addres. Link encap:Ethernet HWaddr 00:00:6c:57:3c:83
          inet6 addr: fe80::200:6cff:fe57:3c83/64 Scope:Link
          UP BROADCAST RUNNING MULTICAST MTU:1500 Metric:1
          RX packets:0 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 frame:0
          TX packets:939 errors:0 dropped:0 overruns:0 carrier:0
          collisions:0 txqueuelen:1000
          RX bytes:0 (0.0 B) TX bytes:94697 (94.6 KB)
          Interrupt:27 Base address:0x2000
Also, my wireless devices are no longer functioning. At present the only network connection I have is 3G. I have configured a wireless device in the Network settings dialog window but it is still no recognized. Are there any software packages that may have conflicts with each other or is there some thing I can remove and re-install? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated, Thanks nu2ubuntu.
