Internet connection and bluetooth

Hi, i have a HP Pavillion dv5 model, and i installed karmic kola 9.10 and it was at my frnds house, Well it was an Ethernet cable,that i used to download and install programms in ubuntu. Internet worked at his place and also at another frnds place. But not at my home!! I use huwai smartx882 model modem.
i have a duel boot> ubuntu and Windows vista home premium, i use internet with vista rather than ubuntu.
i'm trying to find the solution to it.............also i'm just a new user.

BLUE TOOTH
 And i also have a prob with de blue tooth button, if i've to use blue tooth in ubuntu, i've to get back to vista and then switch on de button and then boot in ubuntu and continue. Every other button is recognised by ubuntu, but not the bluetooth button is not.

Can u pls help me.

try this in terminal..
"hcitool scan"
 it will show something like
"scanning....
    00:21:09:CF:08:7B jorr"
00:21:09:CF:08:7B is the bluetooth address, note that down.
Now type..
"rfcomm connect ttys0 <btaddr>"
without the inverted commas, where <btaddr> is your ph bluetooth address.
