how to setup a static ip address in ubuntu 9.10

Asked by kevinkb

I am trying to setup a static ip address in ubuntu 9.10.
I have a Thompson ST585 router and my computer is connected with wireless connection. I am trying to setup port forwarding for Ekiga voip program but before I do that manually in the router I need to setup a static ip address. Can you help?

Under network manager you have option wired where you can do that or under dsl if you use username and password.

If the Thompson ST585 router is capable of issuing static leases (AKA fixed addresses) via MAC address, you can do all configuration on the router.
