b43-phy0 ERROR: FOUND UNSUPPORTED PHY (Analog 6, Type 5, Revision 1) -> Wireless Network controller [0280]: Broadcom Corporation BCM4312 802.11b/g [14e4:4315] (rev 01) not working on HP pavilion dv4 1125nr laptop in Ubuntu 9.10

Asked by Bruce

I guess I am not tech savy enough to figure out how to get my wireless to work. I have a HP pavilion with broadcom b43 and the driver found and I have a green light but still no wireless. I have been doing searches and waisting alot of time. It looks more complicated than it is am I right? I guess I will go back to crappy vista.

Nah, never move to Vista, its extremely crappy. Have you tried this:
(Applications -> Accessories -> Terminal)

sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get upgrade

And then go to System -> Administration -> Hardware Drivers and then
you might see restricted drivers there. Install those and you should
be fine.

Sounds like you're not convinced that Vista is for you either...
The B43 seems to show up a lot. I'll need some time to check some of the other threads - back next year (which is about a half hour from now).

Hi,

Please first connect your network card to the wireless router using an ethernet cable (also known as a LAN cable).

In order to gather essential troubleshooting information about your wireless card, please follow this procedure:

Step 1: Open Terminal from "Applications->Accessories->Terminal"

Step 2: Please copy-paste the following command from the https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu website in Firefox into the Linux Terminal. Do NOT copy-paste from the Email message into the Terminal, as that will only copy PART of the command. The command STARTS with the word sudo and ENDS with the word restart. So please copy-paste the ENTIRE command below from Firefox into a Terminal, press <enter>, then enter password when sudo asks for password, then press enter again.

sudo lshw -C network; sudo iwlist scanning; cat /etc/network/interfaces; cat /etc/lsb-release; lspci -nn; lsusb; sudo lshw -short; uname -a; dmesg | grep ound; dmesg | grep b43; dmesg | grep wl; dmesg | grep witch; iwconfig; grep b43 /etc/modprobe.d/*; grep wl /etc/modprobe.d/*; sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart

Step 3: Please post results (copy/paste terminal output) on this thread

Step 4: Please also specify the exact model and make of your PC (if known) on this thread

Regards,

Mark

Please first try the solution from Tom Haddon from this location:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bcmwl/+bug/385293

If that does not help, please try the solution from Ayuthia from this location:

http://ubuntuforums.org/showthread.php?p=8297306

So you need to install the following Broadcom driver package: bcmwl-kernel-source
