peer to peer connection error

Hello ,
I am new user of ubuntu 9.10 and i want to establish networking of two ubuntu computer. When i connect with cross wired combination of two computers then it give message network disconnected you are off line, and other computer give the red cross sing on networking tower on the top right side.
So, Please help to connect two ubuntu computers peer to peer. I also testing internet on both computer , it run very fine. But when i connect with cable it not establish connection , what do now.

Please set the static ip on single pc...

I suggest you to set the A and B pc ip :

A) 192.168.1.2 / 255.255.255.0

B) 192.168.1.3 / 255.255.255.0
