Hi,

Please first connect your network card to the wireless router using an ethernet cable (also known as a LAN cable).

In order to gather essential troubleshooting information about your wireless card, please follow this procedure:

Step 1: Open Terminal from "Applications->Accessories->Terminal"

Step 2: Please copy-paste the following command from the https://answers.launchpad.net/ubuntu website in Firefox into the Linux Terminal. Do NOT copy-paste from the Email message into the Terminal, as that will only copy PART of the command. The command STARTS with the word sudo and ENDS with the word restart. So please copy-paste the ENTIRE command below from Firefox into a Terminal, press <enter>, then enter password when sudo asks for password, then press enter again.

sudo lshw -C network; sudo iwlist scanning; cat /etc/network/interfaces; cat /etc/lsb-release; lspci -nn; lsusb; sudo lshw -C usb; uname -a; dmesg | grep ound; dmesg | grep b43; dmesg | grep iwl; iwconfig; sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart

Step 3: Please post results (copy/paste terminal output) on this thread

Regards,

Mark

Please try the solution from Tom Haddon from this location:

HI thank you for your help; I tried this method:

https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/bcmwl/+bug/385293

Didn't work....Still shows only the wired connection network and the hardware drivers shows status as: This driver is activated but not currently in use"
I tried to flip the wifi switch several times (just in case it was the switch) but no luck. Please let me know if there is any other method I can use. TY

You wrote that you are using Ubuntu 9.10 and that you tried Tom Haddon's solution.

So I presume that you are using kernel version 2.6.31-14-generic and that you have installed the bcmwl-kernel-source package that automatically compiles the right driver for your BCM4312 wireless card in Ubuntu 9.10 (much easier process than in Ubuntu 9.04, I can tell you) That alone should be enough to solve this issue.

But your output still shows this:

  *-network UNCLAIMED
       description: Network controller
       product: BCM4312 802.11b/g

This means your wireless controller still does not have any driver installed for it, which is very strange. And the wl0 driver (Broadcom STA driver) that your wireless card needs, is NOT blacklisted by the blacklist.conf file.

So your Ubuntu install seems to be broken somehow.

I suggest booting from the Linux Mint 8 LiveCD using this link:

http://linuxmint.secsup.org/testing/LinuxMint-8-RC1.iso

If wireless works out-of-the-box in the Linux Mint 8 RC1 LiveCD session, then install it. Linux Mint 8 RC1 is based upon Ubuntu 9.10

Hope it helps.
