USB broadband dongle not working

Asked by Gerard Cunningham

I'm in the republic of Ireland. Karmic and Jaunty do not support the Vodafone K3520 /Huawei E620 mobile broadband USB stick. Network Manager does not detect the presence of the dongle, although lsusb shows it. This is a Ubuntu problem (presumably network manager) since the exact same hardware (dongle and IBM Thinkpad R52) work perfectly in SUSE.

This appears to be my issue: https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/linux/+bug/446146

Please resolve ASAP, I do not want to abandon Ubuntu for another distro.

Can anyone give me an idea how long "the next days" will take before this is taken care of?

The fix at comment #110 below fixed my problem with Karmic. (However the same fix didn't work a week ago when I was still using Jaunty)
