Network controller [0280]: Intel Corporation Wireless WiFi Link 5100 [8086:4232] can detect 1 wireless network, but cannot connect to it on an Acer 5735 laptop in Ubuntu 9.04

Asked by RayArdia

Wireless was working perfectly while away from home but doesn't work on return. LAN OK. Read this thread:-

Mark Rijckenberg said on 2009-05-22:

Hi,

Please first connect your network card to the wireless router using an ethernet cable (also known as a LAN cable).

In order to gather essential troubleshooting information about your wireless card, please follow this procedure:

Step 1: Open Terminal from "Applications->Accessories->
Terminal"

Step 2: Run the following commands (copy-paste each line below to the Terminal then hit <enter> after each line)

cat /etc/lsb-release
sudo iwlist scanning
sudo lshw -C network
lspci -nn
lsusb
uname -a
dmesg | grep ound
iwconfig

Step 3: Please post results (copy/paste terminal output from each command) on this thread

Keep in mind that one or more of the following 5 basic components need to be configured correctly so that wireless can work correctly in Linux:

Wireless configuration in the BIOS, hardware wireless switch setting, active wireless driver version, the firmware for the wireless chipset (stored as a file in Linux), and the configuration of the wireless parameters in wicd or NetworkManager (SSID broadcast settings, encryption settings, name of wireless interface stored in wicd, the chosen channel for wireless transmission, ...) .

Regards,

Mark

My Terminal print after following Mark's instructions is:-

Hi,

I suggest this alternative:

First connect your network card to the wireless router using a LAN cable.

Then please follow this procedure:

Step 1: Turn off your wireless router, wait 10 minutes, then turn the wireless router back on.

Step 2: Open Terminal from "Applications->Accessories->
Terminal"

Step 3: Run the following commands (copy-paste each line below to the Terminal then hit <enter> after each line)

sudo aptitude update
sudo aptitude dist-upgrade
sudo aptitude install wicd

Step 4: Please post results (copy/paste terminal output from each command) on this thread

Step 5: Make sure to call the wireless interface

wlan0

in the wicd configuration panel.

Step 6: Try connecting to your wireless network using wicd instead of NetworkManager

You can read more about wicd here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wicd_(Linux_Network_Manager)

Is ARDIANET the SSID name of your wireless router?

Regards,

Mark
