Hi,

Please first connect your network card to the wireless router using an ethernet cable (also known as a LAN cable).

In order to gather essential troubleshooting information about your wireless card, please follow this procedure:

Step 1: Open Terminal from "Applications->Accessories->Terminal"

Step 2: Run the following command. The command STARTS with the word sudo and ENDS with the word restart. So please copy-paste the ENTIRE command below into a Terminal, press enter, then enter password when sudo asks for password, then press enter again.

sudo lshw -C network; sudo iwlist scanning; cat /etc/network/interfaces; cat /etc/lsb-release; lspci -nn; lsusb; uname -a; dmesg | grep ound; dmesg | grep b43; iwconfig; sudo /etc/init.d/networking restart

Step 3: Please post results (copy/paste terminal output) on this thread

Regards,

Mark

Looks like you got the wifi working as it has found 2 SSIDS (ziep-zigu and BERZKALNI2)

You can now use network manager to connect to them. You may not be able to use WPA as not all wifi adapters can do WPA under linux

Looks like Mark has nailed this one good :D

Hi,

The following link gives an explanation for your wireless issue:

http://forums.fedoraforum.org/showpost.php?s=7b9c151e06edeabac1ea08bcb2fd0803&p=1170493&postcount=53

The wired b44 driver is loading first, which is preventing the wireless driver b43 from using the ssb module which already in use by the b44 driver.

A quick and dirty fix is to drop support for your wired interface to allow the wireless b43 driver to use the ssb module.

Open a terminal and enter the following command:

gksudo gedit /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist.conf

# Add the following 2 lines at the end of the blacklist.conf file:

blacklist b44
blacklist ndiswrapper

Then run the following command and reboot afterwards:

sudo update-initramfs

Now your wired connection will not work, but wireless should work.

Hope it helps,

Regards,

Mark

Hi Rob,

Thanks for your input, but those 2 "solved" threads are about a different model and make of laptop, which uses a different Broadcom wireless chipset and a different wired ethernet adapter chipset. The solution there cannot be applied here.

The issue on the thread here is a very specific problem where the wired and wireless chipset both use the ssb kernel module, which causes conflicts and where only the wired or wireless can work one at a time, and not work both at the same time..

Regards,

Mark

Hi,

Copy-paste the output of the following commands again:

sudo lshw -C network
sudo modprobe -r b43 b44 ssb ndiswrapper
sudo modprobe b43
sudo ifconfig wlan0 up
dmesg | grep b43
sudo iwlist scanning
sudo lshw -C network

Please post the results of these commands on this thread.

After running those commands, try connecting to your wireless access point using NetworkManager.

You might need to run this sequence of commands after every reboot or you can try adding the command sequence to a script so it automatically runs during boot.

Regards,

Mark

hey!

I thougt - maybe it is possible to write two scripts. If i'll delete those two records from blacklist.conf file, then after restart my wired interface wil work...
so - I need one script, that enables my wifi interface (if I need wifi), and if I need LAN, then I need one more script, that enables back wired connection?

Hi,

Try the following procedure to enable wireless during boot:

Run the following commands:

sudo touch /etc/init.d/b43.sh
sudo chmod +x /etc/init.d/b43.sh
gksudo gedit /etc/init.d/b43.sh

# Add the following lines to this new file /etc/init.d/b43.sh:

#! /bin/sh
### BEGIN INIT INFO
# Provides: b43 functionality
# Required-Start:
# Required-Stop:
# Default-Start: S
# Default-Stop:
# Short-Description: enable script to load b43 wireless driver instead of the b44 wired driver
# Description: enable script to load b43 wireless driver instead of the b44 wired driver
### END INIT INFO
modprobe -r b43 b44 ssb ndiswrapper
modprobe b43
ifconfig wlan0 up

# Then reboot and retest wireless

# No guarantee this will work, as I do not have your hardware and cannot test this myself.

# If wireless still does not work after saving this new b43.sh file, then you might need to run the script manually - after each boot - with the following command:

sudo sh /etc/init.d/b43.sh

# And you can run the following command to disable the wireless script so that it does not run during boot:

sudo chmod -x /etc/init.d/b43.sh

Regards,

Mark

Labvakar!

Izskatās, ka esmu kļuvis par upuri kādām nelabām izdarībām. Pēc visām
pazīmēm uzlauzts mans e-mail konts, un iespējams Jūs esat saņēmuši no manas
adreses (<email address hidden>) kaut kādas SPAM-veidīgas vēstules!

Dzēsiet to visu ārā, neko no tā es neesmu sūtījis!

Mēģinu tikt skaidrībā, kas īsti noticis, bet, katrā ziņā - ļoti atvainojos!
